Everglades, Cow Farms, and Planets, Oh My!
The students at Macedonia have taken many VFTs and EFTs, more commonly known as virtual field trips and electronic field trips. Virtual field trips take students on a tour of a location using a series of web sites that have been linked together, creating a guided experience. During the VFT the content extends students' experiences by taking them outside of the classroom and into a different environment. Some students also go outside the classroom and into a different environment when they participate in EFT's. An EFT isn't a field trip like we're accustomed to. EFT's are live which allows the teacher and class to interact.
Several of the trips include an amazing and highly detailed expedition through the Everglades National Park, a spectacular and extremely informative visit to Mars, a trip to the Sun, and for the younger students, very enjoyable trips to different types of farms, some of which accommodated cows, pigs, and many other animals.
The field trips are very educational, and at the same time entertaining. Perhaps one of the most informative and stimulating of the trips was on the Teodoro Vidal Collection in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. The trip included a biography on Teodoro Vidal and several interactive maps.
